How We Started
Coastal Housing Partnership was founded in 1987 by a group of South Coast employers to address the recruitment and retention challenges associated with the high cost of housing in the area. Home prices in the area continue to escalate at a dramatic pace – far beyond any increase in employee salaries. Even with the recent downturn in housing prices, the median home price is still 11 times the median household income.
Why did this group take the time to address the housing problem? Because they recognized the benefits of a workforce with strong ties to the community and roots firmly-planted locally. Such a workforce actively contributes to the socio-economic health of the community and, because of these local ties, develops a stronger personal connection between their individual success and the success of their employer. Staff turnover drops and knowledge retention and employee satisfaction rises.
But this ability to recruit and retain a quality workforce was directly proportional to their employees’ ability to purchase homes. By partnering with other local employers, this group increased their power to recruit and retain exponentially. Together they could do more in helping their employees become homeowners than by attempting to find solutions on their own.
Since 1987, Coastal Housing Partnership has helped more than 10,000 local employees become homeowners. Today, Coastal Housing Partnership thrives as a non-profit service organization and we continue to expand our offerings to meet the housing needs of local employees.
